DEEP WATER FISHES

last known location was 83 miles north-northwest of downtown Las Vegas..


Lamonema The deep water fish displaying a search behavior.



Eel pout
about 0.5 m long, seen from ALVIN's starboard viewing port while collecting re-suspended sediment at the 106 Mile Dump Site. This species of deep water fish was frequently attracted to the lights and sampling activity on ALVIN dives in this area.




Anglerfish Anglerfish have a fin in the shape of a fishing rod growing from its snout with
a glowing light that acts as bait to prey to lure them inside the anglerfish's huge mouth.

Bathypterois from mid-water. Image captured before preservation. As an adult it stands on the bottom on tripod-like fins in water as deep as 5,000 meters.
